1949- helped found ANC Youth League
1952- opened first Black Law firm in South Africa
1950's- had to resign, worked underground
1960- advocate armed struggle
1962- arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment
1990- released
1993- awarded Nobel Peace Prize
1994-1999 - State President of South Africa
